Events and Adventures - 8/13 thru 7/14

I try to visit as many exhibits, lectures, and events related to vintage, fashion, design, style, and history as I possibly can. Sharing my experiences with you is a big part of the fun.

Sometimes, an event warrants its own blog post. Have you read about my visit to the Mint Museum's incredible costume collection? Or the small but interesting local exhibit on Mid-Century Ranch Houses? Or my viewing of the silent film "The Loves of Pharaoh?"

Other times, an annotated photo album will suffice. In those cases, I prepare a slide show of sorts, and post it as an album on the Better Dresses Vintage Facebook Page. You don't need to "Like" us to view them (although we hope you do!). Here is a sampling of some of those albums. Click the image below each description to go directly to the slide show.

I loaned some Better Dresses Vintage frocks to a choreographer friend for a photo shoot supporting her troupe's upcoming 50s-themed concert. I loved seeing the dresses come to life on the dancers!

See me enter the costume contest at last year's Victorian street festival. It's where I met my costumer Kat, interviewed here.

Join Mr. BDV and me for a backstage tour of the Fabulous Fox Theatre, a magnificent moorish building from the 1920s.

Next, we visited The Goat Farm -- a circa 1880s factory complex now serving as an artist's colony.

Mr. BDV was especially eager to attend the Dream Cars exhibit, showcasing historic concept cars from 1934 through today.

I attended a Civil War fashion show. I learned a lot, and share it with you in this slide show.

At another Civil War event, the Stately Vintage Dancers demonstrate period dances, and I learn more about the clothing of the 1860s.

Most recently, I served as an extra in 1930s garb on the upcoming HBO film "Bessie," starring Queen Latifah. This album will grow as the casting company lifts its restraints on photography.

I hope you'll come view at least a few of these albums, and share your thoughts.
