40s Hooded Velvet Opera Jacket

Hooded opera jacket from the 1940s in jet-black silk velvet. Single covered-button and loop closure at neck. Gathers at the slightly puffed sleeveheads provide the strong-shouldered silhouette so popular at the time. Fully lined in creamy white taffeta. Would look as good with your jeans as with a formal gown. Shorter length makes it versatile. Union made in the U.S.A. From the Hibbard estate.

Labels: only a National Recovery Board (a New Deal act begun in 1934 to ensure fair labor practices) tag and the original owner's name tag (not shown, to protect her family's privacy) remain

Fiber/Care: unmarked, silk velvet, taffeta (unsure of fiber) lining, dry-clean only

Condition: a few crushed spots here and there. minor repair to the lining (only) seam at the right underarm.
