50s Black Velvet Full Skirt Party Dress

1950s party dress in thick, jet black velvet.

  • Ballet neckline shirred to highlight the bust at front (smooth in back).
  • Narrow center-bodice slit.
  • Back mirrors front, but with more generous slit.
  • Slightly dropped, curved, nipped waist has internal waist cinch.
  • Very full skirt.
  • Metal back zip.
  • Unlined. Interior of velvet is smooth.
  • Pinked seams with generous allowances, and a massive, taped hem.

We show this dress with and without a crinoline, not included. Some photos are lightened to show detail. Dress is jet black.

Labels: Rappi 
A mid-century label named for Syd Rappaport, a Viennese-born designer who created high-end formal wear ranking in quality and style among such notables as Ceil Chapman and Malcolm Starr. She also designed day and dinner wear. The line sold at better stores in the higher price ranges.

Fiber/Care: velvet feels like a heavy, high-quality cotton/rayon blend, dry-clean

Condition: no flaws to note. original belt missing (ours not included)

 bust: 34" + ~2" from darts to ~36"/91.5cm
 waist: 25.5"/64.5cm
 skirt length: 31"/78.5cm
 hem sweep: 150"/381cm

For reference, I'm just under 5'6" with a long torso, and measure b: 35.5 (32D), w: 26.5, h: 35.5. This dress fits me well, so if you have similar measurements, this will be perfect for you. I prefer a somewhat snug fit at the waist.
