40s/50s Black Rayon Shirtwaist Dress

Jet black rayon crepe day dress from the 1940s or early 50s with seven-button placket, jewel neckline, bodice pleats, and kimono-cut three-quarter sleeves. Hook&eye at waist and button&loop at neck. Straight skirt has single pleats at each hip, back inverted walking pleat, and is lined in acetate. Thread belt loops. This dress feels wonderfully silky smooth, cool and comfortable. Pinked seams, hem tape.

Fiber/Care: unmarked, rayon with acetate skirt lining, dry-clean

Condition: the top placket button is scratched and the small covered button is fraying a bit. long-ago the hem was taken up and hand stitching closed a length of open seam at the waist. there was originally a lace or other decorative collar, which is now missing, although the snaps to attach it at the neck remain (easily removed if you wish). the original belt is missing (ours shown is not included).
