Well, folks, here it is. The single coolest dress ever. Rich, coffee-brown background with, yes, white spider webs and blue roses. Shirtwaist styling with short sleeves, rounded collar, beautifully finished 5-button placket with nifty buttons, and a fabulous asymmetrical peplum to tie at the left hip. Double bust darts. Swishy A-line skirt with slimming center seams front and back. Metal Klozo side zip. Seriously. The best dress ever. From the 1940s and the Elizabeth W. estate (this one belonged to Elizabeth's mom, who is someone I really wish I could meet. She had to be pretty nifty to wear a dress like this).
What's hot in 2013? That would still be peplums!
Labels: none -- may be home sewn
Fiber/Care: rayon (the splendid mid-century kind that's even better than silk, and vegan-friendly), we know it can survive washing (Elizabeth's grandson tried to clean all her clothes for us before we bought them, by tossing them in the washer!), but we recommend dry-cleaning
Condition: really good. we darned teensy holes in the center and upper left back (see before and after photos). an open seam under one sleeve and a separation at the back of the collar seam have been mended. the original shoulder pads have been cut out, leaving some soft fluffy stuff behind, which gives the shoulders a little boost (see interior photo).
*This dress has been professionally dry-cleaned (by us) and is ready to wear.*
