Victorian Fanchon With Lappets

From the mid-19th century, a Civil War era black silk head covering with elongated, face-framing tails known as lappets. This soft headband was a popular hat style before, during, and for a while after the Civil War era. This piece is suitable for mourning impressions.

Fiber/Care: no tags, silk 

Condition: the color is jet black with no fading or shift and there are no obvious flaws. the interior silk lining is at either end of the middle section. the lappet hem edges have been trimmed away where they were torn or unraveled. the lappets show wear/separation of threads, but have no holes or tears. this antique headpiece must be treated gently, of course, but is wearable with care for historic interpretation, impressions, or reenactments.

*We did not clean this delicate fanchon cap and it definitely has an inoffensive "scent" to it if you give it a sniff. It is not mildewed or obviously soiled."
