70s Repro 18th Century Colonial Pocket

From the 1970s, and likely worn as part of a Colonial-era costume to celebrate the country's bicentennial, an entirely hand-sewn and hand-embroidered 18th-century-style (Colonial era) pocket.

Pocket is of light blue-gray linen. The embroidery is expertly done. There are no flaws to note.

Measures 9"/22.5cm wide x 12"/30.5cm high, with total 46"/116.5cm long waistband.

Pockets came before handbags. They tied around the waist, beneath the clothing, and were accessed through slits in the side seams of both outer and inner garments. Despite being out of public view, they were often highly decorated -- the original "Victoria's Secret," hidden but beautiful little works of art.
