A mid-century beauty in high-quality, fine natural straw with wide, olive-green ribbon at the high crown, forming an elongated, permanent bow at back. Based on the original owner's history, this hat is most likely from the very late 1930s or early 1940s, when the popularity of "Gone With the Wind" made slightly floppy, wide-brimmed, straw picture hats trendy.
Labels: Only the size label remains
Materials: natural straw and rayon (or a blend) velvet ribbon
Condition: Only a tiny bit of the interior grosgrain band remains (doesn't affect wear), and there the ribbon bow and tails show minor signs of age.
Dimensions:
interior circumference at lower crown: 21"/53.25cm
diameter across the bottom: 17"/43cm
height of crown: 4"/10cm
width of ribbon: 1.5"/3.75cm
--> Labeled a size 22-1/2, but actually measures 21", with some give to the straw. Two head mannequins model the hat in the photos: Cracked Jane, the brunette, has an impressive melon head, while Cracked Betty, the blonde, has something of a pinhead. Don't tell them I said that. The hat works on both of them, it just sits a bit differently. <--
