30s/40s Satin Wedding Gown With Long Sleeves and Peplum
From the late 1930s or early 1940s, a wedding gown in cream satin with the look and feel of Old Hollywood.
- Substantial slipper satin fabric glows beautifully and feels wonderful
- Lace trimmed neckline
- Functional, covered-button+loop front placket, piped tuxedo-front detail with ruched side panels
- Pointed long sleeves with puffed shoulders and more functional, covered buttons
- Metal side zip
- Peplum at nipped waist forms hip swags that meet in back within the modified bustle
- A-line skirt opens into dramatic train
- Modest but figure-flattering, perfect for the bride who wants to be a bit more covered up, or is marrying in a cooler climate
Labels: none
Fiber/Care: no tags, feels like silk but it's likely a rayon-acetate blend / dry-clean recommended
Condition: Presents beautifully, but priced to reflect the significant foxing, which is primarily on the train but also scattered here and there, as you can see on the sleeves. We have not cleaned the dress, and the stains may lift with appropriate targeted treatment (we recommend Vintage Textile Soak), but we make no guarantees. Would work fine as is for any theatrical production. Were it ours, we'd dye it a deep jewel tone, shorten the train, and wear it for formal occasions (or a second wedding, though Mr. BDV might balk). We've re-covered one of the buttons, but will leave the remainder of the very minor repairs (missing hook beneath the bustle, smidge of an open seam at cuff and at side) and any cleaning or dyeing up to you, to keep it affordable.
