Beautifully tailored dress and matching short jacket in a fuchsia pink and white abstract pattern with an animal (or perhaps botanical) print. Unlined, short-sleeved shift has figure-flattering gathers at the shoulders and seaming detail at the waist. Thread loops and matching self-fabric belt. Invisible nylon back zipper with top hook&eye. Jacket is lined in solid fuchsia taffeta except at the bracelet-length sleeves. Notched hem. Small pockets expertly hidden in the seaming. Five pretty buttons slip through yummy, hand-sewn, bound buttonholes. From the 1960s and the Mullins collection.

Jeanne Osmundsen (1902-1991) was a long-time buyer of women's fashions in NYC and Milwaukee, prior to opening her upscale dress shop in1962. According to her son, she was known in the NYC fashion industry as "The Duchess," because of her strong views and refined taste. Her shop remained in business until 1984. Here is an ad for her gowns featuring a local society matron at a charity ball:
