50s/60s Raspberry Red Cocktail Dress

Classic, mid-century cocktail dress in a deep, pinkish red that's somewhere between fuchsia and rich raspberry. Graceful ballet neckline at front. Open, diamond-shaped keyhole back with decorative bow detail at the neck. Vertical bust darts, piping at defined waist, gathers at the hips above a straight skirt. Beautifully constructed with full attached linings, and double-finished (pinked and stitched) seams. Metal Tabit back zipper with hooks&eyes at neck, top of zip, and waist. Union made in the U.S.A. in the 1950s or early 60s. Another gem from the living estate of our friend Mary S.

Labels: only a 1955-'63 ILGWU label remains

Fiber/Care: unmarked, feels like rayon, with acetate bodice lining and a stiffened cottony blend lining in the skirt, dry-clean

Condition: there's a teensy spot on the upper right back shoulder, as shown (may lift with future cleaning, we didn't try). for no apparent reason (we see no evidence of alterations) the skirt is quite a bit shorter in front than in back. granted, this is actually on trend (and solves the problem we gals with "ample tushies" have where skirts tend to hike up in back). it will likely be unnoticeable and of course you can hem it to whatever length suits you, but since it's not supposed to be uneven, we've reduced the price accordingly.

*This dress came to us from a known source, already cleaned.*
