60s Gold Belted Mod Cocktail Dress

High-quality dress with glimmer and shine to spare. Beautifully textured metallic fabric in a pattern that reminds us of criss-crossed bamboo. Roll-over neck extends to ties at back. Figure-flattering shirring at bodice. Shift ends in large hem of bias-cut self-fabric. Gorgeous coordinating belt of textured patent faux leather with elongated gold metal buckle. Fully lined. Union made in the U.S.A. in the 1960s. From the living estate of our friend, Mary S.

Labels: only the 1963-'74 ILGWU tag and a size/style tag remain, but WPL#3395 tells us the manufacturer was Don-Ell Fashions Inc., which appears to have been in business from at least the early 1950s through the 1970s. Here are some of their advertisements from the 1950s:

Fiber/Care: unmarked, Lurex metallic on rayon or a blend, dry-clean

Condition: as is typical with metallics, you may find some loose Lurex strands popping up here and there (just snip them off, carefully. it will not diminish the gleam of this gorgeous dress).
