Victorian/Edwardian 1880 Bustle Pad
Authentic, antique bustle pad. These smaller, stuffed pads were worn under the slimmer fashions of the "Natural Form Era" (c. 1877-1882) and again in the late Victorian/early Edwardian days around the turn of the century, when the S-shape silhouette was in fashion and most women added a bit of padding at their bust, hips, and bum. This small bustle pad can be adjusted via the corset-like lacing to project more or less from the body, and the waist is fully adjustable (and easily lengthened to fit all). Decorative lace at the bottom edge.
Labels: none
Fiber/Care: cotton with unknown stuffing, with metal buckle and grommets / hand washable
Condition: Wearable (with care, of course). A few tiny holes, a break in the lace, and It's stained as shown in photos, which I'd say it's a result of the stuffing causing discoloration, rather than of any surface dirt (this bustle pad is super clean, as I gave it several very long, very thorough baths). There is one grommet missing, which doesn't affect ability to lace it up and adjust it (could be reinforced if desired). The waist tape was repaired at some time in the long-ago past. FYI, the waist could be extended to any length you need by sewing (or pinning or tying) on additional twill tape, ribbon, or even a shoe lace.
Dimensions: 10" wide x 10" high (total) measured with the pad as flat as it will go, with current 32" waist band, which is easily expandable with any twill tape/ribbon/shoe lace added to make it any length you need.
