High-quality early 1950s New Look dress in red and black plaid. Kimono-cut short sleeves with underarm gussets, jaunty bow at the neck, and angled bound buttonholes along the front faux-placket. Matching belt at the nipped waist (with inner twill band). Full skirt has small on-seam pockets. Unlined, with pinked seams and the sort of deep hem allowance you won't find on a modern dress at any price. Splendid! From the Bess L. estate.
We show the dress over a crinoline, not included.
Labels: Saks Fifth Avenue
Fiber/Care: no tags, feels like a cotton and silk blend, dry-clean
Condition: bright and crisp, with only minor flaws. there's a tiny hole in the upper back of the skirt, an odd patch in the skirt that covers no flaw we can find, and a small nick on the placket (see composite). beyond that, there's slight wear at the underarms and the belt has cracked at the back (makes no difference when worn). we've replaced a missing hook on the inner waistband, and closed an open seam under the arm.
*We've had this dress professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
