From the 1940s, a rare set of side hoops or panniers.

  • They are intended to make your skirts stand out a bit at the sides, while keeping the back and front relatively flat and smooth.
  • Can be used alone or under additional petticoats or crinolines.
  • Would work with 1920s robe de style styles, as well as serving as "hip spring" for mid-century looks that emphasize the waist.
  • Easily adjusted to fit most, by either pinning each hoop separately to your undergarments, or adding ribbon/elastic to short existing ties at front and/or back.

Labels: Hoops! My dear by I. & M. Co.
The patent was submitted in 1946. See photos for image of the original drawing.

Condition: a few tiny age spots. ties at front are quite short, but simply add (tie, pin,  or sew) on shoe strings, ribbons, or similar to make them as long as you need, or pin one at each hip, separately.

Dimensions:
As shown in photos, each hoop measures about 6" tall and stands out from the hip about 2.5" (or more, if you adjust the internal wire). The length with the two hoops hooked together, without adding additional string or ribbon, is 26"/66cm unstretched, or 29.5"/75cm fully stretched.
