50s Silk Scarf - A Top Hit by Baar & Beards
1950s oblong fringed scarf in pure silk. Mauve background with deep magenta pink, blue, white and gray floral (mums) reversing to bold stripes with gray floral. For your neck, your waist, as a head wrap, or tie it onto your bag for a pop of color. This scarf is wonderfully thick and luxurious, and feels heavenly. From the M.L. Pierce estate.

Sylvan M. Baar (1897-1975) and Milton Beards (1906-1987), both of Brooklyn, opened Baar and Beards, Inc., a ladies' neckwear business, in 1941. The "Top Hit" series of scarves (and possibly this shawl), which debuted in 1949, featured designs based on popular songs of the 40s and 50s. The photo below shows the company's original location at 15 W. 37th Street, in NYC, as it appeared in 1986.

Here's a fun blog post about the "Top Hit" scarves by our colleague Jody at Couture Allure. We are also at a loss for which song is represented by this particular scarf. Any ideas?
