This dress feels heavenly. Jet black velvet, flapper-style long-sleeve dress has deep V-neckline, asymmetrical dropped waist with triple row of horizontal stitches at either side, top front and back darts, bust darts, and jaunty hip swag lined with a pink-on-blue Asian floral crepe. Wrists close with a single snap. Elbow gathers for fit and ease of movement. Dress slips on over the head. Lots of hand stitching (original basting stitches remain just outside machine-sewn seams, see photo). Wearable history in a hard-to-find larger size. From the 1920s and the Richard C. estate.
Labels: none - appears to be home sewn
Fiber/Care: unmarked, we believe it to be 100% silk inside and out, dry-cleaning recommended
Condition: very good. there's a small mend in the right sleeve near the wrist (photo lightened, it's inconspicuous in person). There is some discoloration/faint spotting on the swag lining fabric (see photo). The swag had fallen and has been stitched back into place. The bodice lining has one fairly large vertical split (see photo) and will likely come apart entirely sooner than later, but the dress itself is perfectly wearable, with or without the lining. have we mentioned how incredibly yummy soft this dress is? very soft indeed.
*No stains or odors. Dress came to us clean and we did not put it through the trauma of additional cleaning.*
