New Look silhouette party dress from the late 1940s or early 1950s, in jet black. Bodice of textured floral tone-on-tone fabric has slightly plunging neckline, over-elbow kimono-cut sleeves, and rhinestone-button shirtwaist styling. Vertical darts for shaping. Collar, faux French cuffs, and more-than-a-full-circle skirt of taffeta. Dress is unlined, with pinked seams, hem and waist tape, and a metal Talon side zip. Wear it with or without a crinoline (not included). From the estate of Alice T.
Labels: none - most likely home sewn
Fiber/Care: unmarked, feels like rayon and acetate (possibly a silk blend), dry-clean
Condition: looks nearly perfect, with no obvious flaws or blemishes, but we've put a lot of effort into this one. the original thread has grown tired, and seams had opened in several places. we hand-stitched closed all we found, and machine-stitched closed the open seam at the zipper. one original rhinestone button was lost at the dry-cleaner's, so we used period-correct vintage replacements for all three. they are nearly identical to the originals. we found one tiny worn spot in the folds of the skirt, a spot or two where the skirt fabric is slightly roughened, and a thread or two loose on the bodice. We suspect the dress originally had a belt (there are no loops), but it's long gone and ours is not included. The price has been adjusted accordingly.
*We've had this New Look dress professionally dry-cleaned and it is ready to wear.*
- the bodice fabric has some very slight give -
sleeve (underneath): 12"/30.5cm
The dress is too big on Delphine, and has been clipped as best we could to show proper fit.
