Polished cotton circle skirt with trapunto and rhinestone detailing. This late 40s or early 50s New Look skirt has a happy provenance. It was on MTV! I fashioned it from a vintage dress (let's say the bodice was severely damaged) and wore it to dance in a winning "Basement Tapes" video in 1985. Skirt has an arched waistband and a starburst of trapunto "rays" outlined with couching and ending in prong-set rhinestones. Lined in cotton gauze. Metal "Star" side zipper. High quality. Shown with and without a crinoline, not included. Unfamiliar with trapunto? Read about it, here.
Labels: none remain, but this skirt was originally a very expensive, designer dress
Fiber/Care: no tags, cotton with rhinestones, dry-cleaning recommended
Condition: well, it used to be a dress, so there's that, but it was skillfully converted to a skirt following the original styling of the bodice (thanks, mom). the lining has some holes. zipper is missing some teeth, but is fully functional (just be gentle).
*We've had this full-circle skirt professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
Garment Measurements:
waist: 25"/63.5cm (yes, I can still zip it up, but I no longer look remotely adorable in it and it's time to let it go)
hips: free
length (from waist seam, not arch): 25.5"/64.5cm
+ 2.5"/6cm hem
sweep: more than a full circle
Clipped to fit Cecelia in the photos. It's small, but it's not that small.
