50s/60s Cranberry Red Lace Cocktail Dress

Whoever made this gorgeous cocktail dress took the time and effort to match the lace pattern at every seam, as much as possible. That's a hallmark of fine workmanship, and just one of the many things that makes this a "better dress!" Cotton lace over full acetate lining with additional buckram-like lining at front for added stability. Princess cut (no waist seam), slight A-line shape, knee length. Add in the rich cranberry red (like the deepest raspberry pink) color and the beautiful satin rose detail, and you've got one splendid little party dress to wear year round. From the 1950s or 60s, and the Elizabeth W. estate. The woman had style, that's for sure.

Labels: none

Fiber/Care: unmarked, feels like cotton lace with acetate lining and additional natural-fiber lining at front, dry-clean

Condition: in a well-intentioned but misguided attempt to prepare his grandmother's wardrobe for sale, Elizabeth's grandson sent 350 of her most beautiful frocks through the washer/dryer (gasp!). several did not survive the trip. this one, however, escaped unscathed thanks to dumb luck, cooperative fabrics, and quick intervention. there is a teensy bit of dye transfer to the lining at the neckline. otherwise, perfect. we strongly suggest you dry-clean from here on out!
