This 1960s silk day dress in taupe with orange and golden yellow floral ticking stripes is beautifully constructed and carefully finished (see the Hong Kong seams on the interior of the placket? That's a lot of work for something that doesn't show, and it's a sure sign of loving care). Traditional shirtwaist styling, with covered front placket, small pointed collar, elbow-length sleeves to cuff or not, thread loops that hold a matching belt (don't you love how it's made from one of the stripes?), and pleated skirt with deep hem. Hook & thread eye and one snap at the front of the skirt waist. Please read the Condition report, below, carefully!
From the Cooper estate. Read about my adventure, here.
Labels: none - appears to be carefully and skillfully home sewn
Fiber/Care: unmarked, silk, dry-clean
Condition: Alas, hot and humid storage conditions caused allover foxing spots that our dry-cleaner was unable to remove. They aren't only in the areas shown, they are everywhere. Fortunately, most are tiny, and the color so close to the taupe background that they really do not show unless you are quite close. The only "noticeable" spot is the small one at the bottom back of the skirt (see photo). This lovely dress would be perfect as a costume for a theater production or any vintage event where you don't want to worry about ruining an expensive dress. It's in perfect condition otherwise, with no repairs made or needed. The fabric is spotty, but it's sound and strong. A lovely dress for a song.
*We've had this dress professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
