Close inspection of the linen-like fabric reveals blue and red threads intertwined to create the marvelous purple hue, and a slight iridescent effect. Seven covered buttons with top snap. Strategic seaming creates a feminine silhouette. Unlined, except at the wide, basket-weave hem detail (the woven strips of fabric give the dress some weight and a lovely drape). Thread belt loops. From the mid- to late 1950s.
Labels: Johnnye Jr.
Fiber/Care: most likely rayon resembling linen, as was popular at the time, dry-clean only
Condition: it's nearly impossible to tell if the somewhat slubbed nature of the fabric is original or a sign of overall wear, as it is consistent throughout and, generally speaking, the dress looks nearly new. the original belt is missing, and we thought it looked sleeker without one.
*This dress came to us previously dry-cleaned, but a bit wrinkly, so we had it professionally steam-pressed. It is ready to wear.*
