50s Dress With Bold Stripes

From the 1950s, a dress with bold stripes of navy blue and shades of orange on deep cream. Full skirt features multiple inverted pleats and figure-defining darts. Fully lined in silk organdy. Huge seam allowances, generous hem with hem tape. Closes at back with metal zipper and hooks&eyes. This beautifully made dress is a real stand-out.

Labels: no manufacturer's label remains, only a style number tag

Fiber/Care: no tags, fabric is substantial, with a slubbed quality similar to raw silk or certain rayon weaves. burn test indicated natural fibers, silk lining, dry-clean

Condition: one tiny (1mm) spot at back on the horizontal striped part of skirt as shown. the hem was taken up about 1/2" at some time in the past.

 hem sweep: 136"/345.5cm

For reference, we clipped the dress at the top of the bodice to fit Delphine better as it was too big in the bust for her. She measures 32" at the bust, 27" at the ribs, and 24" at the waist.
