60s Red Tweed Train Case by Celebrity

SKU: 00590-001
Sorry, this item has sold.

Collectible train case from the 1960s in a red tweedy fabric, black vinyl, and gold-tone hardware. Large mirror inside lid. Slip pockets all around the red moire interior. Four little feet keep the bottom clean. So stylish, for travel or as a roomy, organized, everyday handbag. Made in the U.S.A. From the Patrice M. collection.

Please note the actual color is deep, rich red with a slight hint of brick. The interior is pure red moire taffeta. Monitors differ, and red is particularly difficult to capture accurately. The first picture is quite accurate on my calibrated monitor.

Labels: Celebrity
Our research shows that the Celebrity, Inc., label of travel and cosmetic bags has been around since at least 1947 and was located in New York until at least the mid-1970s. The line is now designed by Allegro Manufacturing in California, a subsidiary of Conair, located in Stamford, Conn. Amazingly, the folks I spoke with at Conair had "never heard of" Celebrity. This is quite common, and just one reason researching vintage takes time. When companies are acquired, more often than not the history is lost. Current employees can rarely help with dating.

Fiber/Care: vegan-friendly fabrics and metal hardware, glass mirror

Condition: minor signs of use, mostly on the interior, tiny white spot on bottom (looks like "Wite-out"). originally came with plastic containers, now gone but easily replaced at any drug or big-box store, if you'd like.

Dimensions:
10.5"/26.5cm wide
8"/20cm high
5.5"/14cm deep
