Vintage Victorian-Style Purple Velvet Jacket

Vintage Victorian-style peplum jacket in a delicious, deep purple velvet. Hand-worked genuine trapunto embroidery, covered buttons and loops, mandarin collar, and pointed long sleeves. Partial lining. Pinked seams. From the Narissa W. estate.

At first glance we thought this was clearly 1980s, but on closer inspection, it could be older. The fabrics (including rayon hem tape) and feel of it say late 40s/early 50s. There's no sign of shoulder pads (present or former). We just can't be sure, as a possibly home-sewn garment could be constructed with vintage materials and/or techniques.

Fiber/Care: no tags, cotton/silk, dry-clean only

Condition: looks to have been of a decoration or closure at each wrist, now gone (makes no difference). teensy repairs to both underarm seams. there's some fraying at the very top back of the collar, as shown.

For reference, Delphine measures bust 32"/waist 24", and although we've clipped it gently for the photos, it's still not shown to its best advantage, which will require a curvier wearer. It's also too big on me, and I measure bust 35.5, waist 26.5.
