Labels: Sue Brett
From a 1971 digitized New York Times article:
"In 1946, [company owner Jack Baker] went into business for himself under his own name but found that he was being confused with another Jack Baker in the dress trade. He chose the name Sue Brett, which is derived from the French 'sou brette,' a theatrical term for a lady's maid and which brought to Mr. Baker's mind the figure of a dancing doll. The doll is the company's trademark."
